Tens of thousands of animals are killed by vehicles every year and most incidents cause little more than a moment of distress or regret. Often not even that. Sometimes there is damage to the car or even, in rare cases, injury or death to the occupants of the vehicle. This, of course, is tragic. But so, in a way, is the snuffing out of any creature, in such an unexpected way. As humans, we too, are often caught unaware of what is coming right towards us. And sometimes we have, in a way, brought it on ourselves.
