Shenandoah Vessel #1
Shenandoah Vessel #1
copper, enamel, silver
6 x 5 x 5
2020

Shenandoah Vessel #1 is the first artwork inspired by my Artist Residency at Shenandoah National Park in September 2020. The lush beauty of the Blue Ridge Mountains just prior to the dramatic autumn changes in foliage was the perfect environment for contemplation. For four weeks I hiked the trails, photographed the cliffs and forests, sketched horizons and water falls and wrote haiku poems. This vessel of copper, enamel and silver is 6 inches tall by 5 inches wide. The haiku around the neck reads:

Enveloped in fog,
Nothing but rocks, trees and me,
Cut off from the world.
