Shenandoah Vessel #2
Shenandoah Vessel #2
copper, enamel, silver
6 x 3.5 x 3.5
2020

Shenandoah Vessel #2 is the second artwork inspired by my Artist Residency at Shenandoah National Park in September 2020, and the piece that I will donate to the park as part of the residency contract. This piece is constructed of copper, enamel and silver. The imagery is from photographs taken along the trails in the park, converted to decals and fired on the enameled surface. A sassafras leaf is balanced on the top. There is also some cloisonné below the rim. The vessel is 6 inches tall by 3.5 inches wide. The haiku etched around the silver rim reads:

The fog rises up,
Revealing the rocks and trees
Of Shenandoah.
