Extinction Vessel #1: Gone Forever
Extinction Vessel #1: Gone Forever
copper, enamel, silver
8 x 6 x 6
2019

The piece is titled Extinction Vessel #1: Gone Forever and the imagery is of a fortification of bricks through the arches of which are four animals that have gone extinct in my lifetime (Bernard's Wolf, Javan Tiger, Formosan Clouded Leopard and Northern White Rhino). There are, of course, many more creatures, large and small, that have disappeared. The vessel is copper with silver foil and cloisonné wire and sterling silver trim on the opening and lid. It is 8 inches high by 6 x 6. The haiku etched on the rim reads:

Here for a reason,
But are never coming back.
They're gone forever.
