The Goldfinch Vessel is enameled with a feather pattern of the American goldfinch, the state bird of New Jersey, Harlan Butt’s state of birth. The outline of the feathers is fine silver cloisonné wires separating transparent enamel over silver foil. Across the lid is a goldfinch feather cut from silver & then fired with coats of enamel that is then etched to achieve a matte surface.
The image of the vessel in this online portfolio is an example of the Goldfinch Vessel series. Each piece is hand-made by the artist & has its own distinctive features.
